My Birthday Week

Your birthday lasts a little longer when your mom is in town for the week - thanks mom! I had a great birthday - maybe that means 31 will be a great year, at least I'm counting on it. The boys and mom and I had lots of fun playing around town, we the mall, Target (as usual), a furniture store to browse, the lake for lunch, Guthrie for pictures and Shogun for my birthday dinner - all around a good week that went to quickly! Here are some pictures of our week. I also got plenty of wishes from friends and family and a serenade by my sweet nieces.

This might be my new favorite picture!

Swimmin' & Sleepin'

Carter took 3 naps this week - must be wearing him out more than normal - of course some of that is from the sun and I swear nothing makes a kid more tired than the pool. We had a lovely time swimming with the Hayes' family this week - can't help but love their pool and have serious subdivision envy because of it!

The Redhawks Rock

I'm a bit behind, imagine that. Last weekend we went to a Redhawks game - love having a minor league team in our town, not that we make it down very often but it is sure a nice thing when we do. Carter wants to go mostly for popcorn and lemonade that he gets every time he goes & I'd guess Lincoln will be asking to go back for Twizzlers. We watched, played on the play set and climbed some stairs - hopefully we will make it back before their season is up and maybe even see one of our hometown teams The Iowa Cubs or The Omaha Royals. I can't go to a ballpark and not think about my first meeting of Garnett (my grandpa's wife) when I spilled an entire coke down her back on accident and where I learned that "Take Me Out To the Ballgame" has a line that goes "root, root, root for the Royals".

Carter and Kitty

Our house has been greatly enhanced by the addition of Ms. Kitty - the pet that doesn't belong to us, but comes from 8 AM until her "parents" pick her up around 8 PM - in addition to just being a great cat, she's the best pet - no food or vet bills attached. Every morning the boys get up and want to see if she's here yet and every nap time Carter asks to sit on the front porch with her, sometimes he will rock her in the chair while she rests. She is a bit too fond of laying in my plants but it is a small price to pay for my boys to ALMOST experience having a pet.

For those of you who think I exaggerate Lincoln's antics - here is a picture of proof that I do not. He had the container of surf paste to use when his hair dried and when I got finished getting ready I came out to find his hair finished too! Took some combing it out and a few rags and a few washes - doesn't look too bad, a little extra glossy maybe and I think it still smells of surf paste but at least is doesn't look like it did!

No time to blog...

Too much work to do! I painted the living room last week and started on the dining room tonight - yikes lots of work but SO worth it. Thanks to those of you who have listened to my paint dilemma since we moved in - you know, "it is so blah", "it is flat and dirty", "I hate it" (this is mostly but certainly not limited to my mom, Katie & Becky!) Anyway the project is nearing completion (that might be a little ahead of where it really is, but it will be done soonish). It is clean, satin and I'm in love with Mississippi Mud - now if I could only stop the mirrors from popping off the wall in the middle of the night and scaring the snot out of me!
In an unrelated note, I've learned this week that you should not tell the DirecTV recording that she's an "f-ing idiot" because someone might be listening and try out the phrase just for fun and likewise that someone is also listening when you tell the fellow drivers that they don't own the road and then repeat it to your friend and will later ask "how did you know that that lady thought she owned the road?" my internal answer is - she was driving a Jag and had a serious bouffant, that is how!

The lesson of the week was - never buy an inflatable pool unless you intend to inflate it immediately! Geesh - impatient boys, wonder where they get that! They've played for hours in the backyard over the weekend and had a great time - without fighting even! Summer could be good to us!
